Hyundai might launch dual cylinder CNG Technology

Dual Cylinder Tech will help hyundai cars to get more boot space

Hyundai has filed a new trademark for what is likely a dual-cylinder technology for its CNG cars. The carmaker currently offers a factory-fit CNG kit with three of its cars, namely Exter, Aura and Grand i10 Nios – all of which get a single cylinder placed in the boot.

Hyundai trademarked Hy-CNG and Hy-CNG Duo names in May this year, suggesting that the former represents the company’s new naming nomenclature for its CNG cars, while the latter hints at the introduction of a dual-cylinder technology. Tata Motors was the first to introduce twin-cylinder tanks for its CNG cars a year ago. The technology is now on offer with all its CNG cars, including Altroz, Tiago, Punch as well as Tigor.

The dual-cylinder technology essentially features two smaller CNG cylinders instead of a single large one, thereby increasing the boot space as compared to a conventional CNG car with a single large CNG cylinder. However, Hyundai is yet to confirm this.

The Grand i10 Nios is currently the most affordable CNG car in India, with prices starting from Rs 7.68 lakh. The Aura CNG is priced between Rs 8.31 lakh-9.05 lakh, while the Exter CNG's price ranges from Rs 8.43 lakh to Rs 9.16 lakh. It is yet to be seen if Hyundai will also introduce some new features with the CNG cars along with the dual-cylinder technology, or broaden the CNG line-up with more variants.
