Ather Energy's New Electric Scooter Spotted Testing in Bengaluru: A Challenger to TVS iQube Range?

By Team Man And Motor - 17-11-2023 08:21 AM

Ather Energy, the pioneer in the Indian electric scooter market, is gearing up for a new addition to its lineup as a test mule of their upcoming electric scooter was recently spotted on the streets of Bengaluru. The new scooter, which is expected to rival the TVS iQube range, boasts a family-friendly design and offers a notably spacious riding experience compared to Ather's current flagship, the 450X.

Design and Features: Ather's Departure from the Conventional

The test mule showcases a departure from Ather's signature sporty design, featuring a flat apron and side panels with minimal cuts or creases. Noteworthy design elements include a horizontal LED headlight integrated into the front panel and a taillight housed similarly on the side. The scooter's floorboard appears more spacious than the current 450X, complemented by a wider and longer seat with a modest single-piece grab rail. The foldable pillion footrest and distinct mirrors contribute to its family-friendly appeal.

The left profile image reveals the retention of the belt drive system, now covered for improved durability based on user feedback. While the design is different, the hardware, motor, and battery may be borrowed from the 450X, known for its impressive range and top speed.

Performance and Technology: Familiar Territory for Ather

With a potential launch on the horizon, the new Ather electric scooter is expected to share features with the 450S, including the Deep View display, LED illumination, ride modes, multiple readouts, and smartphone connectivity. Ather aims to maintain competitive pricing while delivering enhanced performance and range.

TVS iQube Resemblance Sparks Speculation

Despite being spotted in Bengaluru, a traditional testing ground for many startups, the design of the test mule bears a striking resemblance to TVS iQube. While this hints at the possibility of a TVS product, differences in body panels, grab rails, and other components suggest a unique design. Speculations arise regarding the potential launch of TVS' iQube ST or Ather's new family scooter, with legal implications if the latter proves true.

Ather's Family-Focused Approach

New images confirm that Ather's upcoming electric scooter is indeed family-oriented, featuring a spacious seating position, a concealed belt drive system, and a more conventional styling compared to their current offerings. The scooter aims to address previous customer feedback by incorporating practical elements such as a foldable pillion footrest and substantial mudguards.

The spy images also indicate premium touches, suggesting a higher-end product. While specific performance and battery details remain undisclosed, expectations align with Ather's proven track record, possibly resembling the 450S specifications.

Anticipated Debut and Pricing

Ather enthusiasts can expect the family scooter to debut early next year, priced competitively against the TVS iQube range. As the electric scooter landscape continues to evolve, Ather Energy remains at the forefront, poised to introduce an innovative and family-friendly option for eco-conscious commuters.
