Honda CB350: A Comprehensive Look at the Retro Classic Challenger to Royal Enfield's Classic 350

In a bold move to challenge Royal Enfield's stronghold in the 300 to 500cc classic motorcycle segment, Honda has launched the CB350, a stunning retro classic designed to disrupt the sales of the iconic Classic 350. The motorcycle is positioned to cater to enthusiasts in the price range of Rs. 1.5 lakh to Rs. 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom). This strategic move comes as classic motorcycles continue to gain popularity in the market.

Classic Design and Features:

Honda's approach with the CB350 is a direct strike on the Classic 350, aiming to lure customers away with a timeless design. The motorcycle boasts a new fuel tank, side body panels, tank grips, classic split seats with contrasting piping, grab rail, larger retro-looking mudguards, shrouded RSU telescopic front forks, and a distinctive retro exhaust. This design overhaul positions the CB350 as the most attractive Royal Enfield rival as of now.

While embracing classic design elements, the CB350 leads in terms of offering features. The top-spec DLX Pro comes with Honda Smartphone Voice Control System (HSVCS) with Bluetooth support, Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC or Traction Control), Dual-channel ABS, LED lighting, semi-digital instrumentation, and a double-layer exhaust pipe to prevent discoloration.

The motorcycle is available in five colors – Precious Red Metallic, Pearl Igneous Black, Matte Crust Metallic, Matte Marshal Green Metallic, and Matte Dune Brown.

Performance:

Powered by a familiar 348.36cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, the CB350 generates 20.78 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 29.4 Nm @ 3,000 rpm. Mated with a 5-speed gearbox featuring an assist and slipper clutch, the CB350 delivers a powerful and smooth riding experience. According to Honda, the H’ness’s engine has been equipped with a reworked exhaust system to produce bold and low-pitched exhaust note to add a touch of nostalgia to the overall performance.

Chassis and Suspension:

Equipped with a telescopic front fork and nitrogen-charged shock absorbers at the rear, the CB350 ensures a comfortable and stable ride. Braking is handled by a single 310 mm disc at the front and a 240 mm disc at the rear, supported by dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with a 130-section tire at the rear, providing a perfect balance of style and functionality.

Variants and Pricing:

The CB350 is available in two variants – DLX and DLX Pro, priced at Rs. 1,99,900 and Rs. 2,17,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. The DLX Pro variant stands out with additional features, including the Honda Smartphone Voice Control System and traction control. The CB350 will be exclusively sold through Big Wing dealerships.

In comparison, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 is priced between Rs. 1,93,080 and Rs. 2,24,755.

Competition and Market Impact:

The new CB350 is set to challenge the Classic 350 with its distinct design and advanced features. Boasting a 10-year warranty package (3 years standard + 7 years optional), Honda aims to attract buyers looking for a reliable and stylish retro-classic motorcycle. With the launch of CB350, Honda is making a significant stride in disrupting Royal Enfield's dominance in the classic motorcycle segment, offering customers a compelling alternative with a rich legacy of CB DNA.

Bookings for the CB350 are now open, and deliveries are set to commence soon. As Honda aims to excite new buyers and further strengthen its foothold in the mid-size motorcycle market, the CB350 stands poised to redefine the classic motorcycle experience.

Words from Honda: Legacy Continues

Mr. Tsutsumu Otani, Managing Director, President & CEO of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, expressed excitement about expanding the mid-size 350cc motorcycle lineup. He stated, "The All-New CB350 proudly takes forward the rich legacy of Honda’s CB DNA and will provide the joy of riding to our customers."
