Kia Motors Indonesia has teased the upcoming Sonet 7-seater SUV, which is scheduled to make global debut on April 8, 2021. The 7-seater model will first go on sale in Indonesia, which will be followed by other international markets. The 5-seater Sonet is already on sale in Indonesia.
For people not in the know, the Kia Sonet SUV on sale in Indonesia measures 4,120mm in length. On the other hand, the India-spec Sonet sits below 4 meters in length – measuring 3,995mm. Both models measures 1,790mm in width, 1,642mm in height, and offers a wheelbase of 2,500mm.
The Kia Sonet for Indonesia is designed and developed at Kia’s manufacturing facility in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. The 7-seater Sonet is expected to measure similar to the 5-seater model. With all 3-row seat in position, the Kia Sonet 7-seater will have unusable boot space. Kia could offer 50:50 split function for the third row seats, which will allow user to create space for the luggage. The second row seats are likely to get 60:40 split function. There could be a 6-seater variant with captain seats for the second row.
The Indonesian-spec Kia Sonet 7-seater will receive a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 113bhp and a peak torque of 144Nm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
The 3-row Kia Sonet model will rival the likes of the Toyota Avanza and the Daihatsu Xenia. In terms of features, the SUV is likely to get the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, UVO connected car tech, Bose sound system, digital instrument console, ventilated front seats, automatic AC, etc.
