The renowned British supercar manufacturer, Lotus, is poised to make an official announcement regarding its forthcoming debut in the Indian market on November 9.

The Carmaker is owned by the Chinese Automotive Group GEELY, and there are speculations that it will be collaborating with Exclusive Motors (Delhi, India) to oversee its sales and service operations in India. While the specific models Lotus plans to introduce in the country remain undisclosed, it is anticipated that this information will be revealed shortly.

Lotus Cars boasts a global presence with its Emeya, Eletre, Emira, and Evija models. Speculations are being made that the brand will introduce the Emira to the Indian market via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route.

Headquartered in Hethel, United Kingdom, Lotus Cars unveiled the groundbreaking Lotus Emira in July 2021, marking the brand's final foray into petrol-powered sports cars. Subsequently, Lotus is charting a path towards an all-electric future, with the Evija electric sports car and Electre SUV at the forefront of their electric vehicle (EV) initiative.

The Lotus Group is currently under the ownership of Geely (Zhejiang Geely Holding Group) Automotive, a prominent Chinese automotive company. Lotus is actively engaged in the development of several new models, including a compact SUV, a four-door sports coupe, and another sports car. These exciting additions to the lineup are rumored to make their debut by the end of 2026, and they will undoubtedly feature electric powertrains.

Lotus Emira

There are speculations that the Emira will become the first car to come to Indian soil. It is a very sleek-looking sports car that carries the Lotus Heritage with it. The car is loaded with all kinds of modern kits and gadgets and offers an adequate amount of luxury to its occupants. Its main USP will be the level of fun and agility that it offers. Emira is said to be the last car from Lotus that is powered by IC engines.

Some media reports suggest that it will be offered here in India with two different engine options: the first is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit sourced from AMG, while the second is a 3.5-liter V6 that is sourced from Toyota. The former produces 365 hp of power and 420 Nm of torque, while the latter is good to make 406 hp of power and 430 Nm of torque. The 2.0 engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, while the larger engine is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox. There is a very small chance of a 6-speed manual being offered in India, which is available in global markets.

The V6 achieves 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 290 kmph.

Expect that the Emira will be priced in the ex-showroom range of Rs 2.5–3 crore when it becomes available at a nearby showroom.
