In the first three months of 2021, we have witnessed some really big new car launches including the new Tata Safari, Renault Kiger, updated Maruti Swift and Toyota Fortuner. Several new models have been planned for coming months right from the new-generation Maruti Celerio to Ford Territory SUV. Here’s brief on the upcoming new-generation models of India’s top 5 popular SUVs.
The Indo-Japanese carmaker will introduce the new-generation Maruti Vitara Brezza near around 2021 festive season. The subcompact SUV will receive significant cosmetic changes along with a bunch of new features and updated powertrain. If reports are to be believed, the new model will underpin the modified version of the existing C-platform. It will feature a 1.5L K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine with a stronger mild hybrid system. If it happens, the 2021 Maruti Vitara Brezza will be more fuel efficient than the existing one.
The second-generation Mahindra XUV500 is reported to arrive in the month of September 2021. It will be designed on the new FWD monocoque platform that will also underpin the upcoming Ford C-SUV. In terms of design and features, the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will be a far cry than the existing model. The SUV could be the first Indian SUV to feature ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) along with several advanced technologies. Major change will be made under the hood. The new XUV500 will come with the all-new 2.0L turbocharged petrol and 2.2L diesel engines and manual and automatic gearbox options.
The new-generation Mahindra Scorpio is also slated to hit roads in the second half of the 2021. Compared to the current generation, the new one will be bigger, more spacious and feature packed. It will be built on the Thar’s ladder frame chassis and come with a new touchscreen infotainment system and dashboard. Besides platform, it will share some of its components with the new Thar. Powering the 2021 Mahindra Scorpio will be a 152bhp, 2.0L turbo petrol and a 158bhp, 2.2L mHawk diesel engine. It can be had with either a manual or an automatic gearbox.
Toyota’s top-selling premium SUV – Fortuner – is ready to witness a generation change sometime next year. Major cosmetic and feature upgrades are expected to be made to the SUV. Reports suggest that the 2022 Toyota Fortuner will receive the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) along with the electric power steering. Engine setup of the new Fortuner is likely to include diesel-hybrid powertrain, thus making it more fuel economical and eco-friendly. Currently, the SUV is available with a 2.8L diesel and 2.7L petrol engines making power worth 104bhp and 166bhp respectively.
With the generation change, the Ford Endeavour will receive comprehensive design and feature upgrades. The SUV model lineup with also be expanded with a new off-road oriented Wildtrack X variant featuring 4WD as standard fitment. Engine setup of the 2022 Ford Endeavour will include three motors -a new 3.0L V5 turbo diesel, new petrol plug-in hybrid and 2.0L turbo diesel. The new Wildtrack X trim will be powered by a 250bhp, 3.0L, 6-cylinder turbo diesel unit that also does duty in the America-spec Ford F-105. The SUV will get new SYNC4 infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity and connected car technology.
