Bengaluru-based start-up Orxa Energies has officially launched the Orxa Mantis performance electric motorcycle. Priced at ₹3.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), the Mantis aims to carve its niche in the mid-segment naked electric motorcycle market, going head-to-head with competitors like the Ultraviolette F77.
Pre-Bookings Details
Orxa Energies has opened pre-bookings for the Mantis, requiring a token amount of ₹10,000 for the initial 1,000 customers and ₹25,000 for subsequent bookings. With deliveries set to commence from April 2024 onwards, the company is gearing up for a promising entry into the electric motorcycle segment.
Performance
Boasting the title of the lightest bike in its class to be manufactured in India, the Orxa Mantis, developed entirely in-house, weighs 182 kg (kerb). The motorcycle's performance metrics are equally impressive, with an acceleration from 0-100 kmph in 8.9 seconds. The acceleration is finely tuned for urban traffic conditions, achieving 0-20 kmph in 2.7 seconds and 20-60 kmph in 6.2 seconds. The top speed of the electric motorcycle is an impressive 135 kmph.
Powering the Mantis is a PMS (permanent magnet synchronous) liquid-cooled electric motor, weighing a mere 11.5 kg, tuned for 20.5 kW (27.4 bhp) and 93 Nm of peak torque.
Features and Specs
The Battery pack of the bike comes with a IP67 rating for water and dust protection. The bike features a 5 inch TFT screen as instrument cluster which is loaded with Linux based Operating System and comes with Bluetooth connectivity. A dedicated Mantis Application will be used for navigation, notifications and ride analytics. The headlights, all indicators and tail lamps are LED. It also uses Ride by wire technology.
The ground clearance of the motorcycle stands at 180 mm with 41 mm telescopic forks at the front while a hydraulic mono shock with adjustable preload at the rear.
The bike rides on 17 inch alloys both at the front and rear while the front tyre size is 110/70R17 while the rear tyre is 130/70R17. It has 1450 mm wheelbase and the seat height stands at 815 mm.
Battery Technology
The Mantis is equipped with an 8.9 kWh battery pack, providing a claimed range of 221 km (IDC) on a single charge. The battery comes with advanced Battery Management System (BMS) and dual-redundant thermal management, ensuring optimal performance and durability. Orxa has strategically partnered with Spare It for after-sales services and Nunam for end-of-life battery buyback services, promising customers a 40% cost advantage upon selling the bike. Additionally, a partnership with Bolt allows Mantis owners to utilize Bolt's fast-charging stations.
The bike maker is offering a standard warranty of 3 years or 30,000 kms on the vehicle, motor and its battery.
