Yamaha Motor India showcased the R3 and MT-03 sport bikes at the on going MotoGP Indian Grand Prix at Buddha International Circuit Noida.

Yamaha’s Upcoming Bikes!

Yamaha is going to launch two new bikes by the end of this year which are going to be the R3 and the MT-03. The R3 is a fully faired sport bike which was discontinued in India in 2020 due to the implementation of stricter BS6 emission norms and the poor sales of the bike which was rivaled by KTM 390 and TVS Apache RR310. The R3 got major cosmetic updates in 2020 but it was not launched in India because the emission standards of the bike was still Euro 4 compliant but now the bike has been updated to meet the current emission norms. While the R3 was on sales in India earlier, the upcoming MT-03 is a going to be a new product altogether but it will be majorly based upon the R3. MT-03 will be a naked street racer version of the R3. In the early phase both the bikes will be sold in India as Completely build units (CBU) sourced from Indonesia but later on Yamaha is planning to shift to CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route.

Engine Specifications!

Both R3 and MT-03 are going to get the same 321 cc, parallel twin cylinder engine that will be liquid cooled. The peak output from the engine will be around 42 bhp while the torque output is expected to be around 29.5 Nm. Both bikes will feature a slipper clutch and a 6 speed gearbox. The top speed of the bikes is expected to be around 160 kmph.

Features

Both the bikes will come equipped with dual channel ABS and sporty USD forks at the front. At the rear a mono shock unit is seen. Both the bikes will come with full LED lighting and LCD instrument cluster.

R3 is going to be a little heavier due to its full fairing and will weight 169 ks while the MT-03 will weight 167 kg. Both will come with a fuel tank capacity of 14 Liters. The seat height of both the bikes will 780 mm.

Pricing!

The earlier R3 which sold in India was last listed at Rs. 3.51 lakh (ex-showroom) on the official Yamaha Website, but now the competition is already very tight so we are expecting that the bikes will be offered under the 4 lakh(on road) price bracket to offer adequate value to the buyer. Yamaha will sell these both R3 and MT-03 at their Premium Blue Square Outlets.

Yamaha R3 and MT-03 Rivals

Both these upcoming bikes will face tough competition from Kawasaki Ninja 300 and KTM Duke 390 and newly revealed Aprilia RS 457.
