Top Selling SUVs in October 2023: Segment wise sales figures.

By Adarsh Dutt Upadhyay - 14-11-2023 12:46 PM

In the month of October 2023, a total of 3,90,853 passenger cars were dispatched for domestic buyers, and out of those 2,33,568 cars belong to some kind of SUV segment, which means nearly 60% of all cars being sold in India are SUVs. That tells us about the reality of the SUV craze in India.

Here we have compiled the data for sales of SUVs in various segments in the month of October 2023. Have a look:

Mini SUVs

The Mini Suv segment is definitely being dominated by Tata’s Punch, while Maruti’s Fronx and Hyundai’s Exter are also delivering good numbers to their respective OEMs, but they just can't compete with the Punch.

Compact SUVs

The segment of compact SUVs is the toughest to compete in, but it is also led by Tata’s Nexon. Maruti and Hyundai, here too, follow the trend of being no. 2 and no. 3, respectively, with Vitara Brezz and Venue. The Kia Sonet is due for an update, so its numbers will definitely jump up in the coming months.

Midsize SUVs

This segment has an even more fierce fight than the compact SUV segment, and the leader remains the same: the Hyundai Creta. However, it seems that the recently updated Kia Seltos may dethrone the king in the coming months, as the latter is just about to receive a major facelift at the start of next year. Maruti’s Grand Vitara is also a very popular choice among buyers in this segment, and it may also get higher numbers in the coming months.

Honda’s Elevate seems to be an underrated car with sub-potential performance.

SUVs

The Big Daddy SUV Scorpio is the leader here, with its larger sibling closely following it, while the gap between No. 2 and No. 3 is more than 6,000 units.

Large SUVs

Fortuner and just Fortuner are here for you. Just look at its numbers; it is nearly 10 times larger than its main rival, MG Gloster.

MPVs/MUVs

The Utility segment is led by the Ertiga, while Mahindra’s Bolero just fell short of some hundred units to make 10k units for a month. Kia Carens has also impressed buyers with more than 5,000 units in the month of October 2023.

Lifestyle SUVs

Thar’s sales grew by 52% in the YoY comparison, and that shows buyers interest in such cars. On the other hand, Jimmny’s sales grew on a monthly basis by nearly 30%.

Electric SUVs

Separate data for several BEVs, like the Nexon, was not present as of now, so the XUV400 is the leader in the full electric SUV segment, with a good 639 units delivered.
