By Team ManAndMotor - 08-03-2021 10:01 PM

In February 2021, most of the car manufacturers witnessed decent growth (except Ford and Skoda). If we take a look at the segment-wise sales data, the compact, mid-size, and premium SUV segments recorded a growth of 95%, 83%, and 53% respectively. The MUV segment, however, witnessed a decline of 14% with total sales of 27,837 units against 32,261 units of the same month previous year. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga retained the top spot with total sales of 9,774 units. Compared to the same month last year, the carmaker sold 11,782 units of the Ertiga, recording a decline of 17%. What comes as a surprise is the Toyota Innova Crysta outnumbered Mahindra Bolero, Maruti Suzuki XL6, and Renault Triber with a big margin. With total sales of 6,018 units, it has become the second top-selling MPV in the country. In February 2020, the Japanese carmaker sold 5,459 units of the Innova Crysta.

Mahindra Bolero and Renault Triber stood at number third and fourth with total sales of 4,843 units and 3,553 units respectively. Maruti Suzuki’s XL6 MPV recorded sales of 3,020 units as opposed to 3,886 units of the same month last year. It registered a sales decline of 22%. Kia Motors managed to sell 400 units of the Carnival and Mahindra retailed 120 units of the Marazzo accounting a decline of 90%. The Datsun GO+ and Toyota Vellfire grabbed the 8th and 9th position with sales of 72 units and 34 units respectively. The Mahindra Xylo and Tata Hexa recorded zero sales last month.

In near future, we will witness some new launches in the MPV segment. Kia Motors and Hyundai are planning to foray into the compact SUV space with new models, which are likely to arrive in the next couple of years. MG Motor India will also bring in the MG G10 to challenge the Kia Carnival. Toyota and Maruti Suzuki will co-develop new MPVs for the Indian market.
