Volkswagen Taigun’s Production Model To Unveil On March 24, 2021

Volkswagen will unveil the India-bound Taigun on the 24th of this month in Goa. To be launched under the SUVW strategy of the German automobile giant, the Taigun will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the upcoming Skoda Kushaq in the Indian market.

Platform And Expected Price

The made-in-India Taigun will utilize the same MQB A0 IN platform that underpins the upcoming Kushaq. Volkswagen had revealed the Taigun concept last year and the production version of the vehicle is likely to remain largely the same as the concept vehicle. The base price is expected to be around Rs 10 lakh while the top-end variant may touch about Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom. The Volkswagen T-Roc, which is a CBU vehicle is of around a similar size to the Taigun will continue to be available in the market and will be aimed at enthusiasts.

Dimensions

The Taigun is around 4.22 meters and will offer a wheelbase of 2,651mm, which is the same as the Kushaq. While Volkswagen is yet to announce the minute details, the Taigun is likely to get 188mm of ground clearance, which is the same as the Kushaq. Since both Taigun and the Kushaq will be based on the same India-spec platforms, the dimensions will remain similar. We can even expect a few common features between the two cars.

Turbo petrol engines only

Volkswagen has announced that it will not offer any diesel cars. So just like the Skoda Kushaq, the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun will offer a choice of two petrol engines. There will be 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol and the more powerful 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol.

The 1.0-liter TSI engine will power the entry-level variants of the Taigun and will generate a maximum power of 109 Bhp and a peak torque of 175 Nm. The more powerful 1.5-liter engine will produce a maximum power of 148 Bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. Both the engine options will offer the 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The entry-level engine will get a six-speed torque convertor automatic while the higher-powered engine will get the 7-speed DSG DQ200 dual-clutch automatic transmission.

While the official unveiling of the Taigun is only a few days away, you can expect a range of features available with the car. Starting with LED headlamps and tail lamps, the Taigun will offer ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, a 10-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, a sunroof, and more. It will be one of the most important vehicles for the brand in 2021. Many other vehicles will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform in the future.
