To add a sense of uniqueness and premiumness, Kia Motors India has just introduced X-Line variant of its famous MPV, the Carens. It will come with two transmission options: a petrol DCT priced at Rs 18.94 lakh and a diesel 6-speed TC AT priced at Rs 19.44 lakh.
When Kia launched the Carens MPV in February 2022, it was promoted as the most premium yet affordable MPV. With a starting price of just Rs 8.99 lakh back then, it was rather affordable, but now Kia has decided to give Caren’s buyers a sense of exclusivity over others with the introduction of premium X Line Variants in the Carens line-up. The X-Line Carens will be targeted at customers who seek practicality, luxury, premium features, and a good driving experience, all in one package. Till now, the range-topping variant of the Carens, the Luxuary plus diesel AT, was priced at Rs 18.95 lakh, but with the introduction of the new X-Line, the range now goes up to Rs 19.44 lakh. Both the newly introduced X-Line variants will come only in a 6-seater configuration.
Engine options remain the same with the 1.5-liter TGDi motor, which produces 160 PS and 253 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-liter Turbo diesel produces 115 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of torque. Lower variants are also offered with a Smartstream 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine that is good to produce 115 PS of peak power and 144 Nm of torque. Carens also offers a wide range of gearbox options, starting from a pure manual to an iMT, a 6-speed torque converter AT, and a 7-speed DCT.
What’s new in X-Line Carens?
The Carens X-Line carries forward the signature X-Line character from the Seltos. The exterior features a matte graphite color, while the interior will come with a two-tone black and sage green theme. Kia calls the color themes ‘Xclusive’ and ‘Splendid’ respectively. On the exterior, the car will carry an X-Line logo at the rear, with not much change in appearance compared to the Luxury Plus Variant.
The most noticeable upgrade comes in the form of entertainment for the rear left passenger, as the Carens X-Line will come with an exclusive Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) Unit (LH) rear passenger. The system includes features like screen mirroring, access to podcasts, and various entertainment and news apps. Users can pair their smartphones with the system to control it via an app and Kia Connect Skills with Amazon Alexa feature. The car also features sporty orange stitching on the steering wheel and gear knob.
With the introduction of the Carens X-Line, Kia now offers all its models with an X-Line trim barring the flagship EV6.
Pricing
The Kia Carens standard range starts at Rs 10,44,900 for the Premium Variant (base variant), which goes up to Rs 18,95,900 for the standard top variant, Luxury Plus. The newly introduced X-Line range starts at Rs 18,94,900 for the Petrol DCT model, while the range-topping Diesel AT is priced at Rs 19,44,900.
Kia’s Opinion
As per the reports, Mr. Myung Sik Sahn, Chief Sales and Business Officer, Kia India, said, “The distinctive identity of our products has helped us become an aspirational brand, and X-Line’s popularity among new-age consumers has elevated it to the next level. We are seeing a lot of new-age buyers considering distinctive and exclusive products while making purchasing decisions, so we decided to extend this trim to our India Car of the Year, Kia Carens. We already have a growing Carens family of 100,000 customers, and the X-Line will significantly expand it.”
Kia Motors came to India in 2019, and since then they have achieved commendable growth in the Indian market, following the path of its sister brand Hyundai. SUVs like Seltos and Sonet have performed really well, while their flagship EV, the EV6, has also found a good number of buyers.
Currently, Kia holds 5 to 6% of the market, and with the recent launch of Updated Seltos and the upcoming facelifted Sonet, the company is going to gain even more.
