New Ford Equator

The 2021 Ford Equator three-row SUV has finally been revealed via official images. The model has been developed under the Jiangling-Ford joint venture and set to launch in China in the coming months.

The American carmaker has no plan to bring in the Equator in India. The company, however, is working on a C-SUV that might share its design elements with the China-spec new Ford Equator.

Dimensionally, the new Ford SUV measures 4905mm in length, 1930mm in width, and 1755mm in height with a wheelbase of 2865mm. This makes it bigger than the global-spec Ford Everest (Endeavour in India), which is 4903mm long, 1869mm wide, and 1837mm tall. Compared to the existing FoMoCo SUVs, the new Equator looks slightly different with a split headlamp setup and wide taillamps. The front grille with glossy black finish and chrome accents, a large bumper with wide air dams, LED auxiliary lights and silver skid plates at the front and rear add more to its rugged front look.

Some of its other key features include pronounced wheel arches with black plastic cladding, bold shoulder lines, chromed window lines, interconnected LED taillamps, twin exhaust pipes, and ‘Equator’ badging on the tailgate. Inside, the 2021 Ford Equator has Mercedes-Benz-inspired dual screens measuring 12.3-inches along with the floating front center console, leather upholstery, and wood trim throughout the cabin.

There are individual armrests for the second-row seats. It has a dual-pane sunroof, TAI 3.0 connected car technology, and ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). The SUV is exclusively offered with the 6-seats layout. Official engine details of the SUV are still under the wraps. Though, the dual exhaust pipes suggest it might come with V6 or V8 engine. In China, the large displacement engines are viable to heavy taxes.

Therefore, it’s likely to come with a 2.0L turbocharged petrol motor that’s good for 221bhp and 266Nm. The SUV gets FWD (standard) and AWD (optional) systems. It can be had with either a 6-speed automatic gearbox or a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
