Bajaj Auto is going to bring half a dozen of new or updated products by the end of this financial year with the “biggest pulsar ever” on the list.
Pulsar brand needs no introduction whatsoever and consisting as many as 10 models, it is already the largest portfolio, starting from Pulsar 125 to the range topping 250 it has something for everyone, but in the recent past we have witnessed unprecedented growth in mid size segment with the arrival of new products few of which is made by Bajaj itself. Bajaj Auto has a history of capitalizing on trends, and in the same fashion the company is gearing up to launch as many as six new products. The biggest highlight of the news is going to be the “biggest pulsar ever” as claimed by Rajiv Bajaj, MD Bajaj.
The Mid Segment
Bajaj already manufactures the Triumph Twins and KTM bikes in India but its own flagship model the Dominar 400 has not deliver much in terms of sales and just 607 units of Dominar 400 were delivered in the month of July this year. In contrast if we see the sales figures of other mid segment bikes Royal Enfield leads the chart with more than 24 thousand units sold of just one bike the Classic 350. Triumph Twins and Harley Davidson X440 has also captured fair bit of attention since their launch, and very recently with the arrival of updated KTM Duke 390 and Honda CB300F the segment became vying.
The News!
In a recent interview Mr. Bajaj told that Bajaj is going to launch at least 6 new or updated bikes in coming months with the target to gain as much as possible in terms of market share in the mid segment that Bajaj currently holds about 30%. Speaking on the “ biggest pulsar from the stable Mr. Bajaj said, "We think we have a fantastic product to offer. We want to do it within this financial year so that you know the full benefit of that in terms of growth and profitability is available to us next year".
In the same event he also expressed that the company is exploring exploring more opportunities in premium motorcycle segment that goes beyond Rs. 1.7 lakh in value and the engine capacity is well above the 200cc mark.
Meanwhile he also spoke about increasing the production capcity of Chetak electric scooter upto 15000-20000 units by the end of this financial year and plans to bring some more products under Chetak brand.
The biggest ever pulsar
It is highly anticipated that the “biggest pulsar ever” is going to be a 400cc bike derived from the existing RS or NS models which might share its powertrain with the newly launched Duke 390 or the Speed 400 as the existing Dominar 400 got its engine from previous gen Duke 390. Bajaj had very early plans of introducing a Pulsar with 400 cc or similar displacement as they showcased the CS 400 and SS 400 concepts at 2014 Auto Expo but somehow it never made to reality.
