The EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori), or Milan Motorcycle Show, that is going to be held from November 9 to November 12, is one of the largest exhibitions for the global two-wheeler fraternity. The 2023 event will see many notable launches and revelations from leading Indian two-wheeler makers.

According to a media report, Royal Enfield is set to unveil a high-performance electric bike concept at EICMA 2023 in Milan, Italy. The new concept design will be based upon an all-new electric platform that is reportedly designed to deliver a regular 9 kW output while having a peak output capacity of 16 kW.

The report suggests that Royal Enfield's latest electric platform is not only under development, but significant progress has already been made. The mid-segment bike maker is developing two all-new products based upon Royal Enfield’s own platform and another platform developed in association with Stark Motorcycles.

The new underdevelopment concepts have been codenamed L1A and L1K, and the firm has already appointed a fully dedicated EV team for the project.

The limited details about the new concepts reveal that the L1A will be among the lightest two-wheeler structures that may carry the Flying Flea badge, and it will be promoted as an entry-level electric bike. The flying flea was designed in the times of World War II to facilitate the warriors dropping the bikes by parachutes directly into the war zone. Later, it served as a cheap and economical mode of transportation.

The lightweight structure of the bike will help it achieve maximum range and performance from the battery pack.

On the other hand, the L1K will be a larger concept with characters from adventure bikes. It will be positioned in the mid-segment with power figures similar to what the latest generation of 300–400 bikes offers.

Royal Enfield had previously disclosed an investment in the Spanish electric motorcycle brand ‘Stark Future’ with the goal of co-creating new products and technologies. In this partnership, Eicher Motors acquired a 10.35% stake in the company, amounting to Rs 439 crore.

The L1A and L1K will be based upon Royal’s own design with a speculated 60–120 volt battery pack, while the bike that will be developed in partnership with Stark may have a battery pack with 350 volts. Reports suggest that it will share its foundational elements with the Stark VARG, a dirt bike available with a 79 hp electric motor (top spec), energized by a 6.5 kWh battery, and weighing only 118 kg.
