The Lamborghini subsidiary, owned by the Volkswagen Group, Ducati is one of the most famous names in the sports bike category. It is going to showcase a new single-cylinder engine and a new bike featuring the new engine on November 2.

Ducati has announced the introduction of its new single-cylinder engine, which will produce unprecedented power and torque for a single-pot unit. It will be the company's first single-cylinder in the past 30 years. The engine will be called Superquadro Mono, and it is developed upon the famous 1285 cc engine of the historic Panigale 1299.

The new engine has a volumetric displacement of 659 cc, and it is a mechanical copy of the larger 1285 cc engine known as the Superquadro but lacks a cylinder. It will get the same desmodromic system of valvetrain and 116-mm-diameter piston from the Superquadro engine. The intake valves are made of titanium, while the exhaust valves are steel. The stroke of the new engine will be just 62.4 mm.

Ducati claims the engine is capable of producing 76.43 bhp at 9,750 rpm, and if you fit a Termignoni exhaust, the power output will be boosted up to 83.34 bhp at 9,500 rpm. The torque figure is astonishing as well, at 62.76 at 8,000 rpm. The manufacturer claims that 70 percent of the maximum torque is available from as low as 3,000 rpm, and it will never go below 80 percent of the peak from 4,500 to 10,250 rpm, which is the set redline for the engine. There will also be a de-tuned version of the engine available for naive users.

The engine has a service schedule of 15,000 km (oil change), while valve clearance matching is necessary at every 30,000 km. Ducati claims that the vibration level of the Mono is comparable to that of its 90-degree V-twin engines due to the use of two counterbalancer shafts.

Some reports suggest that the new bike that will come equipped with this engine will feature ride-by-wire technology and three power modes: high, medium, and low. It is claimed that the engine will be mated to a 6-speed unit that will be derived from the Panigale V4 and will feature Ducati Quick Shift.

Ducati currently sells 11 models in India.
