In the month of September 2023, a total of 3,62,836 passenger vehicles were sold, of which 2,21,119 were SUVs. That translates to nearly 61%. Here are the complete segment-wise sales statistics of all SUVs sold in India.
Mini SUVs
The segment of beefed-up hatchbacks has gained quite a lot of customer interest in the past couple of months, with Tata Punch dominating the sales charts, while Hyundai's Exter has also captured significant market share.
Compact SUVs
This is the most desired segment of mass market car buyers, and nearly every manufacturer has a model to offer in this segment, but the segment is dominated by Tata Nexon while cars like the Vitara Brezza and Venue follow closely. Kia's Sonet is due for a facelift, so its sales are showing a downward trend.
Midsize SUVs
It is surprising that the news about Creta's facelift arrival has been circulating on the internet for the past couple of months, and buyers are still purchasing Creta like hot cakes. It has been dominating the segment for ages now. The Grand Vitara follows closely, and it may surpass Creta's numbers this month.
SUVs
Scorpio is the king of this segment. The combined figure of Scorpio Classsic and Scorpio N is 11,846 units, and currently, these cars are the favourites of SUV buyers.
Large SUVs
No one can beat the Fortuner as far as the full-size SUV segment is concerned. Just see the no. 2 in the segment; it's not even 10% of Fortuner.
MPVs/MUVs
When it comes to people movers or fleet vehicles, Maruti's Ertiga dominates the market; however, Mahindra Bolero shows no sign of ageing with sales figures close to 10,000 units. Kia Carens is also performing well, while Mahindra's Marazzo seems dead now with just 144 units dispatched.
Lifestyle SUVs
Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Jimny are the only two contenders fighting for the crown in this segment, but the winner in September was Thar, with nearly double the sales of Jimny.
