Volkswagen launches limited edition Taigun GT Edge Trail at Rs 16.3 lakh

Volkswagen India has finally launched the limited-edition Taigun SUV, the GT Edge Trail. The car was first showcased in April, and it is now available at a similar price tag of Rs 16.3 as the mid-spec GT trim on which it is based.

The ever-increasing SUV demand in the on-going festive season has pushed manufacturers to bring new and updated products to their line-up, and Volkswagen India has also followed suit. Volkwagen has given a cosmetic upgrade to their Taigun SUV to keep it fresh and appealing. The newly launched Taigun GT Edge Trail is based upon the GT trim of the Taigun SUV, which has been tweaked in terms of looks to make it look more rugged and capable.

What’s new in Taigun GT Edge Trail?

As the name implies, the new GT Edge Trail Edition has a rugged appearance thanks to functional roof rails, body decals and graphics, and blacked-out 17-inch alloy wheels with sporty red painted brake calipers. It gets unique decals on the rear fender, doors, and C-pillar. The Trail Edition has been made available in Candy White, Relfex Silver, and Carbon Steel Grey exterior paints.

As far as the interior is concerned, the only noticeable change is the seat upholstery, which is now black leatherette with red contrast stitching and the word 'Trail' embossed on the seats.

In terms of features, the Taigun Special Edition gets the same kit as the car it is based on. The list includes a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The special edition car gets the addition of a dashcam that can record external and internal visuals and cast them on the in-built 2-inch IPS LCD display.

Taigun GT Edge Trail Engine and Gearbox

The same 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine with 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque is used to power the Edge special edition that does duty on the regular car. A 6-speed manual transmission is mated to the gearbox.

Pricing and Rivals

The Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition is priced at Rs 16.3 lakh (ex-showroom), which is the same as the mid-spec GT trim on which it is based. It is priced at Rs 2.06 lakh less than its costlier version, the GT Edge Limited Edition, which is based on the GT Plus variant with the highest specifications.

It rivals the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and Honda Elevate.
